ALBERT OMONDI OJWANG
The tragic death of blogger and X influencer Albert Omondi Ojwang, who died while in police custody at Central Police Station in Nairobi.
Close friends say Ojwang was arrested on Saturday, allegedly over posts on social media platform X that were linked to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Eliud Langat. According to those close to him, he was taken to Central Police Station but was never officially booked in the Occurrence Book (OB)—a detail that raises serious concerns about due process.
In a chilling twist, a recorded phone call between Ojwang and a friend shortly after his arrest captured what are now believed to be his last words. By Sunday morning, he was dead.

The National Police Service (NPS) claimed that Ojwang died from head injuries, allegedly sustained after he hit his head against the cell wall. Police say he was rushed to Mbagathi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. However, the explanation has been met with widespread skepticism and public outrage.
In response to the growing pressure and suspicion of foul play, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has ordered the immediate suspension (interdiction) of several officers at the station, including:
- The Officer Commanding Station (OCS)
- The Duty Officer on shift that night
- The Cell Sentry present during the incident
- All Report Office officers on duty that night
- Any other officer found to be involved in the events leading to Ojwang’s death
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has since launched a formal investigation into the incident.
