TEACHER PETER AYIRO
The Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Julius Bitok, has confirmed that the government plans to suspend (interdict) and arrest a male teacher from Alliance Girls High School. The teacher is accused of grooming and taking advantage of students over several years.
Earlier this week, an investigation revealed serious allegations against the teacher, who had been in charge of the school’s Christian Union. Former and current students said he used his position to build close relationships with vulnerable girls, some of which led to inappropriate physical contact. Some of these actions reportedly happened outside of school, including during private dinners.

The report, by investigative group Africa Uncensored, showed that the abuse may have started as early as 2018. The teacher is accused of using his role and spiritual influence to control students. The report includes interviews with over 24 former students, teachers, and school staff. They described a long-running pattern of abuse that the school failed to stop, even after formal complaints were made in 2018 and 2021.
Alumni of Alliance Girls High School have since held protests, demanding action and justice for the affected students.

Authorities say the teacher will face legal action and be removed from his position as the investigation continues.
