Litein Boys High School
Students at Litein Boys High School went on a shocking rampage, destroying school property and stealing money. According to reports, the boys damaged classrooms, dormitories, laboratories, the kitchen and even the school bakery. Food supplies were cut up and thrown away, maize sacks ripped open, and sugar and oil spilled everywhere.
During the chaos, some students cooked eggs, meat, chapatis and pancakes in the kitchen and even in teachers’ houses. Others rode the school cows like horses until the animals were weak and injured. Some reportedly broke into the bursar’s office and stole more than one million shillings after dismantling the school safe. They also destroyed books, documents and school records.
The students even tried to drive the school bus without keys, burned laboratories and chased away police officers who came to stop them. Many people are still in disbelief at the level of destruction. Parents are now left to pay the price while calls grow for schools to rethink discipline and improve communication with students to prevent such incidents in future.
