Murang’a Family Tragedy on Gilgil Road
A tragic accident on the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway near Kariandusi, Gilgil, has left Murang’a in mourning after 16 members of the same extended family lost their lives.

The family was traveling in a matatu to Nakuru for a visit when it collided head-on with a trailer. Most of the passengers, including parents, children, and relatives, died on the spot, while others passed away in hospital. A few survivors are still fighting for their lives.

Among those who died are Elijah Mburu (the matatu driver and father), Lydia Njeri (mother), Naomi Wangui, Loise Wambui, Pauline Muthoni, Catherine Njambi, Grace Waithera, Eunice Ruguru, and Beatrice Waithera. Police and family sources confirmed more relatives were in the ill-fated vehicle.
Police say the matatu may have been overtaking when the crash happened. The Gilgil stretch, known as a blackspot, has recorded many deadly accidents in the past.

This heartbreaking tragedy has shocked the nation, leaving an entire village without sons, daughters, mothers, and fathers.
