Leader of the Majority at the Kiambu Assembly and Kalimoni Ward MCA Godfrey Mucheke was violently assaulted at a bursary distribution event in Kikuyu Municipality on Tuesday evening, suffering serious facial injuries that allegedly left him unconscious.
The attack occurred shortly after the MCA delivered a passionate speech at Mai-a-Ihii Primary School grounds, praising development projects under Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi’s administration while condemning “anti-development” leaders.

Witnesses reported that a large rock struck Mucheke’s vehicle, hitting him in the face and causing him to lose consciousness.
Mucheke was quickly rushed to a hospital in Kikuyu town for treatment.

His condition remained undisclosed, but sources close to the MCA described the injuries as severe.
The incident followed heightened political tensions in the area.
Mucheke has been a vocal defender of Governor Wamatangi, frequently speaking against Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah, who has publicly opposed the governor.
Also present at the event was Karai Ward MCA Samuel Ichembe, who faced loud boos from locals when he attempted to claim credit for local developments. Residents rejected his advances, chanting in disapproval.
Ichembe was allegedly among a small group of MCAs allegedly pushing for Wamatangi’s impeachment, according to local sources.
No arrests have been made, and police have yet to issue a statement on the attack.
However, the event was successful, with bursaries distributed and solar lights installed at multiple stops across the municipality.
County officials condemned the violence, urging calm amid ongoing political rivalries. Further updates will follow as investigations proceed.
