Leonard Mambo Mbotela
- He was born in 1940 in the Frere area of Mombasa County.
2. Unlike most journalists, he did not attend journalism school.
3. He began his career as a trainee reporter for the Kenya Weekly News and later worked for the East Africa Standard newspaper. He eventually joined the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) and became a full-time employee at Voice of Kenya in 1964.
4. One of the lowest points in his career occurred on August 1, 1982, during the attempted coup.
5. Mbotela was married to Alice Mbotela, and together they have three children: Ida, Jimmy, and George.
6. His show, “Je Huu ni Ungwana,” aired on Radio Taifa and KBC TV, holds the record as the longest-running show in the history of the Kenyan media industry, having been on the air for over 50 years.
7. He died at the age of 85
The Late Leonard Mambo will be laid to rest on Saturday 15th of this month at Langata Cemetery.
