Three members of the same family have died after a fire destroyed their house in Murara Village, Kianjokoma, Embu County.
The fire broke out at around 2:00 a.m. while the family was asleep. According to retired chief Mark Nyaga Karangi, the flames spread quickly and burned down the one-bedroom timber house before residents could rescue those trapped inside.
The victims have been identified as 60-year-old Ruguru Kaundecia, her sister Lucy Rwamba, 50, and Rwamba’s 30-year-old son, Rodgers Gitonga, who was living with a mental disability.

Nothing was saved from the house, and all their belongings were destroyed in the fire.
The bodies were taken to Embu Level 5 Hospital Mortuary as police began investigations into the cause of the fire. Their bodies were burned beyond recognition.
