Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu
Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, also known as Babayao, has been freed today after spending five months in prison. This comes after the High Court granted him a KSh 53 million cash bail while he waits for the outcome of his appeal.

Waititu was earlier sentenced to 12 years in prison or pay a fine of KSh 53.5 million, after being found guilty in a KSh 588 million corruption case involving illegal tender awards during his time in office.
His wife, Susan Waititu, was also found guilty and sentenced to one year in prison or a fine of KSh 500,000.
Businessman Julius Chege, another co-accused, was fined KSh 295 million or serve nine years in prison.
The court has also banned Waititu and his co-accused from holding public office, even as he fights to overturn his conviction.
