Kiambu doctors, KMPDU officials
It is alleged that three Kiambu MPs met at a local hotel and raised KSh 750,000 to fund protests planned for today at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital. Reports say the money was given to a group from Kiambaa by one MP’s bodyguard. The plan was to pay 600 people KSh 1,000 each and use the rest to print T-shirts, banners, and vuvuzelas.

At the same time, Kiambu doctors, joined by KMPDU officials, took to the streets to protest delayed salaries, poor working conditions, and failure by the county to remit deductions. The Council of Governors (CoG) has called for an urgent meeting in Nairobi to help solve the ongoing health crisis that has lasted more than four months. Despite the protests, businesses in Kiambu Town are running normally, with shops and offices open.
Yesterday, Governor Kimani Wamatangi made an impromptu visit to Thika Level 5 Hospital. The CoG has strongly denied claims that 136 infants died at Kiambu Hospital, calling the reports false and malicious. It stated that no such incident has been officially reported and asked the public to disregard misleading information aimed at tarnishing the county’s image.

According to the Daily Nation, 136 newborns allegedly died during the doctors’ strike, but the county government dismissed the report as political propaganda, saying the numbers were exaggerated. Dr. Nyaga from the Kiambu Health Department confirmed that health services are still running normally. Kiambu Majority Leader Godfrey Mucheke also urged MPs to stop spreading lies about the county’s health sector, saying all hospitals continue to serve residents well.
