Rigathi Gachagua
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has come to the defense of former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, calling him a “very brilliant mind.” Gachagua criticized the way Kuria was treated, saying that it was an insult to fire him and then bring him back in a lower position as an economic advisor. He compared this situation to a wife being kicked out and then brought back only to serve as a maid, calling it “an insult.”
Gachagua also made serious claims about President William Ruto, accusing him of bribing Members of Parliament (MPs) with up to Sh350,000 each and Senators with up to Sh10 million to help with his impeachment. He claimed that Ruto was the one who drafted the impeachment motion and even bought the MPs and the person who moved the motion.
Despite these accusations, Gachagua denied claims that he was blackmailing President Ruto or demanding Sh10 billion to rally support from Mt Kenya. He stated that Ruto was just trying to push a political narrative, not taking any direct action against him. Gachagua also denied pressuring MPs to support him and explained that he had only advised them not to blindly follow the president, especially after public backlash over the Finance Bill 2024.
Gachagua also suggested that Ruto’s decision to sack Moses Kuria and give him a position as an economic advisor was more about paying him a salary than giving him real power or influence. He criticized Ruto for sidelining capable leaders from Mt Kenya, such as Kuria, Justin Muturi, Mithika Linturi, and himself, stating that Ruto didn’t want any leaders from the region who were intelligent or strong.
In a final point, Gachagua pointed out that many leaders from Mt Kenya were being pushed aside, and he suggested that people in Kiambu and Mt Kenya might want to replace him with William Kabogo in the Cabinet.
