DCI Amin and Rigathi Gachagua
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has claimed that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was in contact with one of the main suspects in the murder of mental health doctor Victoria Mutiso.
Speaking to the media on Friday, August 7, DCI Director Mohamed Amin said investigators found evidence showing that Gachagua communicated with one of the key suspects during the investigation.
“What came out very clearly is that Rigathi Gachagua was in communication with one of our main suspects in this matter,” Amin said.
Amin also claimed that Gachagua was in contact with the boda boda rider who allegedly transported the murder suspects.

According to the DCI boss, if Gachagua had information that could help the investigation, he should have shared it with detectives instead of keeping it.
However, Gachagua denied the claims while speaking during the opening of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) offices in Kiambu

He said he has never communicated with any murder suspect and questioned how he could have interacted with them while at his home in Wamunyoro.
Gachagua added that the information he receives comes from people within the security agencies and not from suspects.
Meanwhile, the DCI said detectives have made major progress in the investigation through forensic and intelligence-led operations.
According to Amin, investigators have identified the alleged organiser of the murder, the boda boda rider who ferried the gunman, and several other people believed to have helped plan and carry out the attack.
The DCI also alleged that rogue police officers were involved. Investigators claim some officers helped coordinate the operation, while another officer allegedly supplied the firearm used in the killing.
A police constable attached to Karinde Police Post under Kikuyu Police Station has been arrested after investigators identified him as the officer suspected of firing the fatal shots.
The DCI further revealed that Dr. Mutiso had survived an earlier attempted attack on July 7. Two men on a motorcycle allegedly pointed a gun at her near Junction Mall along Ngong Road, but she managed to escape.
Detectives are still following more leads and are also investigating whether some of the suspects could be linked to another high-profile shooting that happened in 2025.
Dr. Victoria Mutiso was shot dead on the morning of Wednesday, July 29, at around 9:00 a.m. at the junction of Mbagathi Link Road and Mawenzi Road in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area.
