UDA’s Leo Wamuthende has been declared the winner of the Mbeere North parliamentary by-election, securing 15,802 votes. His closest competitor, Newton Karish of the Democratic Party (DP), finished second with 15,308 votes—a narrow margin of just 494 votes.

The by-election was highly competitive, attracting national attention after Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua personally campaigned door-to-door in support of Karish. However, the voters of Mbeere North ultimately chose Wamuthende, marking a significant victory for UDA in the region.
Following the announcement, Hon. Leo Wamuthende received his provisional certificate from the IEBC, officially confirming him as the MP-elect for Mbeere North Constituency.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki congratulated the MP-elect, praising the peaceful and fair election process.

In his victory speech, Wamuthende promised inclusive leadership, saying:
“It was a hotly contested race. Whichever side they voted, I will serve all my people equally.”
Earlier in the day, Wamuthende and his wife cast their ballots at Siakago Social Hall Polling Centre, encouraging residents to turn out in large numbers.
The outcome marks the beginning of a new chapter for Mbeere North as the constituency welcomes its newly elected representative.
