Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina and Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi
Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina and Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi have been mentioned in allegations linked to an incident that disrupted a church service at ACK Witima Church in Othaya on Sunday, where Rigathi Gachagua was present.
The incident caused chaos during the service, with disturbing scenes involving women and children. Following the incident, public anger has grown, with many questioning why no arrests or action have been taken against those mentioned. The silence from the police has fueled concerns that some political leaders may be protected by influence, raising fears of impunity and claims that some politicians are untouchable.

In response, Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi has denied any involvement and instead accused Rigathi Gachagua of orchestrating the chaos. Wamumbi claims that Gachagua works with a police constable who allegedly helps him ferry tear gas and organize goons. He further alleges that Gachagua’s personal assistant, Munene Wa Mumbi, was responsible for mobilizing hired goons and coordinating with police officers to lob tear gas inside the church.

Wamumbi insists that Gachagua is capable of creating such incidents to gain public sympathy. He also made serious claims about past incidents, alleging that after he won the Mathira parliamentary seat in 2022, he was forced to destroy items that Gachagua allegedly used to torture, assault, and humiliate women in Nyeri.
Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina has strongly denied the accusations. In a statement, she termed the claims baseless and said she will seek legal action.

“Rigathi Gachagua, I will proceed to a court of law so that you can substantiate these baseless accusations against me,” Betty Maina said.
