Governor Mutahi Kahiga
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has issued an apology to the family of the late Raila Odinga and to Kenyans after a video surfaced showing him appearing to celebrate the former Prime Minister’s death.

In the viral clip, Kahiga claimed that most development projects were being directed to Nyanza while Mt. Kenya was being neglected, adding that “God has done His work.”
Amid widespread criticism and backlash from leaders across the country, Kahiga announced his resignation as the Vice Chair of the Council of Governors (CoG). He clarified that his remarks were personal and not linked to any political party, community, or the Council.

The ODM party condemned his comments, with Chairperson Gladys Wanga accusing Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of promoting divisive politics. Wanga said anyone associating with Gachagua is “an enemy of ODM,” recalling that the DP had previously mocked Raila during his illness.
ODM leaders, including Wanga and Adhiambo Nyang’, also warned Gachagua against visiting Bondo, saying his statements and those of his allies were disrespectful to the late Raila Odinga.
Meanwhile, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned Governor Kahiga over the remarks, terming them divisive and ethnically charged.
