Rigathi Gachagua
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua returned to the country today after a six-week trip to the United States, sparking dramatic scenes at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and along Mombasa Road.

A huge crowd of his supporters gathered early at JKIA to welcome him back. The airport quickly turned chaotic after police officers were reportedly deployed to arrest him. However, his supporters blocked the move, chanting and pushing back the officers, forcing them to retreat.
As Gachagua made his way out of the airport, escorted by a heavy convoy, the situation spilled over to Mombasa Road. Groups of rowdy youths clashed with police and in the process destroyed journalists’ vans covering the return.

Despite the tension, Gachagua was eventually driven out safely and headed to Kamkunji Grounds in Nairobi, where he is expected to address the public.
