Free learning materials for Kiambu County ECDE centres

Governor Kimani Wamatangi will flag off free, newly sourced learning materials for over 40,000 early childhood development education (ECDE) learners across Kiambu County on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
These essentials, including exercise books, pencils with erasers, furniture, and age-appropriate items designed with spacing for optimal learning, will reach more than 524 ECDE centres in 60 wards.

The official launch will take place at the County Headquarters in Kiambu Town, initiating transport to centres countywide. This dispatch kicks off the school year, supporting Kiambu’s push for quality early education.
Under Governor Wamatangi’s administration, over 520 modern ECDE centres have been built or upgraded, featuring PP1 and PP2 classes, offices, kitchenettes, ablution blocks, and play areas with swings, slides, and sand pits.

“The child of the hawker who sells samosas and boiled eggs as a delicacy in Kiambu County ECDEs will also enjoy high standards of learning in school like that of a rich parent going to an academy,” said Gov Wamatangi during an outdoor public meeting.
Learners in Kiambu County also receive free porridge, milk, and eggs daily, while new uniforms enhance their appearance, often rivaling private academies.

ECDE tutors in the County are also encouraged and supported to pursue diplomas for their professional growth and development.
Plans for the sourcing of buses and swimming pools for the ECDE learners are at an advanced stage to grow a holistic child ready for the job market, and with an entrepreneurial spirit.
The interventions by the Gov Wamatangi administration have led to healthier, more attentive, and brighter children countywide.
