Pastor Jimmy Irungu
Pastor Jimmy Irungu collapsed and was rushed to hospital after hugging a tree for 79 hours in Murang’a town. He was just one hour away from reaching his target of 80 hours when he fainted.

Pastor Jimmy had already broken the 72-hour Guinness World Record previously set by environmental activist Truphena Muthoni. His challenge aimed to raise awareness about cancer.

Witnesses say his condition worsened near the final hour, forcing medics to intervene to save his life. Though he did not complete the full 80 hours, doctors advised him to stop, saying his health was at serious risk.
“Hugging a tree for 79 hours is not a joke,” supporters said, praising his strength and courage.
Pastor Jimmy Irungu is now the new record holder, replacing Truphena Muthoni, who hugged a tree for 72 hours. Truphena, the founder of the tree-hugging challenge, had earlier visited Pastor Jimmy while he was still continuing with the challenge.

This journey has also sparked debate, with some people noting the lack of support for the boy child, despite the great sacrifice Pastor Jimmy made.
Pastor Jimmy is currently receiving medical care and is reported to be in stable condition.
Congratulations to Pastor James Irungu, you did your best. Life comes first.
