A family in Nakuru County is in deep pain after the death of Anita Nyambura Mugweru, who was allegedly stabbed to death by her estranged husband.

The suspect, Edwin Kaunga Muthoni, is a Kenya Defence Forces officer based at Gilgil Military Camp. The incident happened at their home in the St Mary’s area on Tuesday, April 14.
According to a report made at Nakuru Police Station by the house help, the couple had an argument over claims of cheating. During the fight, the husband picked a kitchen knife and stabbed Anita in front of their 4-year-old child and the house help.
The child, the house help, and a neighbour rushed her to Nairobi Women’s Hospital, but she was declared dead on arrival.
Anita’s family says she had reported her husband to the police several times over threats, but no action was taken. They also claim he had been arrested earlier during the Easter holiday for threatening her, but was later released.
The family now fears that justice may not be served because of the suspect’s connections.
They say Anita had been planning to end the relationship and had even scheduled a family meeting on April 18 to separate.
Family members also revealed that Anita was the one supporting the home financially, paying rent and helping her husband during his financial struggles.
