Raila Odinga
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has voiced sharp criticism over the recent handling of rumours about former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s health.
Gachagua questioned why ODM’s leadership has chosen to address the issue through statements rather than allowing Raila to clear the air through public appearances.
Speaking on KTN News on Sunday, Gachagua said, “There is no need to write letters when Raila Odinga could simply be seen engaging in activities. When President Daniel Moi faced health rumours, he would take a brisk walk publicly, and that was enough to put the rumours to rest.”
He added, “The handlers who issued statements without even disclosing which country Raila is in only deepen the public’s suspicion about his true condition.”
Gachagua further wondered about the involvement of ODM in the matter, stating, “Where does Rigathi Gachagua become involved in matters about Raila? I was not even aware Raila was out of the country.”
He attributed the weakening of ODM to President William Ruto’s strategy, asserting, “It is a pity that ODM is a pale shadow of itself. President William Ruto told me he would destroy ODM, and he has destroyed ODM. Now, a few characters who are ODM members are milking, and others are not.”
Gachagua’s remarks come amid ongoing speculation about the internal challenges facing ODM and the party’s ability to maintain political relevance in the current landscape, and also with Raila missing in public limelight.
