MP Ndindi Nyoro
Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has officially launched the 2026 edition of the Kiharu Masomo Bora Programme, an education initiative aimed at improving learning and reducing the cost of education for parents in the constituency.

The programme will benefit over 12,000 learners in all 65 Day Secondary Schools across Kiharu.
Under the new plan, school fees for all day secondary school students will be Ksh 500 per term starting Term One 2026.

All learners will also receive lunch at school every day, including Saturdays. Meals will include githeri for three days, rice for three days, and uji during the tea break. In addition, chapati will be served for lunch on the last Friday of every month.
To support academic performance, Ksh 10 million has been set aside this financial year for revision materials through the Kiharu NG-CDF, adding to Ksh 20 million already provided in previous years.
The programme has also allocated over Ksh 50 million for school infrastructure, with special focus on building and improving science laboratories.
Students joining Grade 10 in 20 selected schools with low enrolment, as well as new schools opening this year, will receive free school uniforms.
Each of the 65 day secondary schools will receive an additional Ksh 50,000 to support co-curricular activities such as music festivals and sports, to help make up for low government capitation.
To reward excellence, Ksh 900,000 has been allocated for prize-giving ceremonies, with Ksh 450,000 set aside for each sub-county — Murang’a East and Kahuro. This ensures parents do not have to pay extra for prize-giving events.

Outstanding teachers will also be rewarded. The best improved teacher per subject in each sub-county will receive a fully paid trip to Mombasa, including teachers who missed previous trips due to KCSE marking duties.
School leadership has not been left out. Principals from the best and most improved schools per ward will receive a fully paid trip to Dubai. Those who have previously visited Dubai may choose to travel to Malaysia instead.
The programme also limits remedial fees to a maximum of Ksh 1,000 per term and strictly bans any other charges or registration fees in all day secondary schools.
In addition, the programme will cater for insurance and maintenance of school buses owned by day secondary schools.
The Masomo Bora Programme covers all learners, including students from other parts of Kenya, as long as they are enrolled in Kiharu Day Secondary Schools.
